GO HARD.....TT's start fast then get decidedly faster the rule of thumb, go hard, harder even harder. Its about giving it your all in measured effort of suffering....
FITNESS......Your fitness has to be on point to ride at and of course above threshold...BUT also you need explosive power at the start....the ability to ride at your threshold zone during the main part of the ride...then the final push to the line where the last few minutes its into Z5 and beyond....
CADENCE.....Change it as the road suits but ensuring that the power remains the same...the more time in your TT position then the quicker the time...the moment you are forced out of the seat you lose the aero benefits....
FUEL.....A good three hours before the event ensure that you have eaten....ensure hydration is great too before the event...for a 10 you dont really need anything over 30 mins then you might want a gel or some liquids...otherwise its head down and go for it....
GO HARD ON THE HILLS OR INTO THE WIND.....Then you can get some recovery on the downhills keeping the aero tuck...
RECCE THE ROUTE....We joke about marginal gains but with TT's its a game changer....understand the road, drains, potholes, wind etc and you have already moved up a few positions before you have even started...
STAY RELAXED..... If you fire yourself up then you may go out too hard so keep relaxed and focused and measure the effort....
AND DONT BE LATE TO THE START....Get there in plenty of time...ensure a nice 20 min or so warm up and get to the start line ahead of time also...
TT's are a great way to get into racing....its you the clock and no one else. No worries about crashes, getting dropped or pulled from a race....so dip your toe in and have a go.....
