WHERE

Set in Lake Garda in the region of Veneto all riders can look forward to some spectacular riding. The area has dramatic changes in terrain from endless climbs away from the the Lake to rolling hills of the Valpolicella wine region. There are also a few challenging climbs featured in The Giro as well as many climbs up to Monte Baldo which looms over the lake itself……

WHY

Cycling maybe more than any other sport has an inclusive nature about. Everybody, be it old or young, male or female, good and not so good can ride together. The week is aimed at cyclists of all abilities with Rule 5 Coaching staff on hand to give feedback both during and after the rides. WHAT

The week has been designed by Rule 5 Cycling Coaching to help with all aspects of riding. A daily focus outlined in the previous evenings briefing will frame your daily rides. These include improving your climbing and descending as well as riding in a group, to fueling pre and post ride, cornering and weight loss and general fitness. Each day will end with a 1-1 analysis of your ride via Training Peaks, Strava or Garmin Express dependent on the software that you use.......

So what are you waiting for…who needs to go to Spain !!!

TOUGH TIMES DONT LAST, TOUGH PEOPLE DO.......

LAKE GARDA TRAINING CAMP ITINERARY

DAY 1

(Training Focus – Group riding and riding abroad)

(30 km “no” climbs)

After collection from Verona Airport its only a 30 min journey to the Hotel, time to put your bike together and go for a quick spin along the Lake to Torri Di Benaco for an ice cream or maybe your first Aperativo in Italy !! There will be a coaching session on riding in a group and also an introduction regarding riding in Italy from Rule 5 Cycling Coaching.

DAY 2

(Training Focus – Climbing Technique)

(70 km Prada Alta & Passo Lumini)

Leaving the hotel we will have a short warm up to begin the climb up to Caprino Veronese where the main climb to Prada begins. The first part through Passo Lumini does have some tough sections at 14 and even 20% after which it’s a steady climb to the top around 5% where you will reach 1,200m and have completed a 22 km ascent. A quick coffee and brioche it’s a descent via San Zeno which has some of the best views in the area of the lake and then across country over quiet roads back to the Hotel where Rule 5 Cycling Coaching will run through your data and give you feedback on the days work….

DAY 3

(Training Focus – Fueling post pre and during )

(60 km Rivoli, Zuane and Bardolino)

A shorter ride to focus on some recovery from yesterday and to turn the legs for the following days Giro climb…A ride over rolling hills, a few short steep climbs to again practice technique and start to look at descending also. Once again back to the where Hotel Rule 5 Cycling Coaching will go through riders data and give feedback on the day….

DAY 4

Training Focus (Climbing & Descending)

110 km Peri – Fosse & Valpolicella

Leaving the Hotel, we head for the bike path that would take you to Trento if you went the whole route going through quiet Vineyards of the Val d'Adige. Once we reach Peri it’s a right turn onto a climb made famous in the Giro of recent years. Climbing for just under 10 km we gain almost 1,000m in elevation….This is a tougher climb with an average of 8% and with a section at 13% near the end, so pacing is critical….Then it’s a long descent to Negrar and into Valpolicella where we will stop for lunch and for sure a glass of wine before the easier journey back to Garda.

DAY 5

Training Focus – (Cadence and gear selection)

50 km Braga

An active recovery day of sorts with a climb up to Braga. This climb combines steep sections as well as longer gentler parts so ideal to work on gear changing and cadence. Once again a short 18% section breaks the rhythm so gear selection and pacing are crucial… Almost a single track, this is a very quiet road away from the main road climb up to Monte Baldo. As everyday, Rule 5 Cycling Coaching is on hand at the end of the day to provide feedback and analysis of your ride data.

DAY 6

Training Focus (Putting it all together )

THE BIG ONE !!!

Monte Baldo via Avio 120 km

The “Stelvio Climb” of Garda !! This really is a big day out and will take us up to 2,200m on a climb that will take 1hr 30mins and perhaps a little more if the legs are tired from the week you have just done…. We will ride over to Rivoli and pick up the bike path that we traveled to get to Peri. After 30 km we arrive at Avio where we take a left turn and start the climb…The climb is impressive from the start as the mountain looms in front of you the road snaking its way up the mountain. The road climbs, undercutting the rock for some impressive tunnels also. Once at the top we will have lunch at one of the Malgas before we take on the technical descent back home via Spiazzi and Caprino….A super day on the bike where you can put all you have learnt into practice….

DAY 7

AND RELAX

One last short spin for an ice cream or maybe a final Negroni with the Coach before you depart to the airport !!

Total approx

5, 750m (18,000 ft) and 450 km ( 280 miles )
